π° How to Reduce Procrastination πβ³π
In my previous video, I discussed procrastination and why we procrastinate. If you havenβt seen it, check it out! Hello, Iβm Dr. Joe Laird, LPC, and today weβll explore how to reduce procrastinating behaviors.
Procrastination is a learned behavior and can be unlearned. Here are some tips to help you:
1. Recognize the Problem: If you struggle to start or complete tasks, acknowledge it.
2. Just Get Started: Commit to completing what you start. Take small steps and keep moving forward.
3. Break Tasks into Small Chunks: If overwhelmed, break tasks into manageable pieces. Each small step will lead to progress.
4. Be Organized: Use a planner or Google Calendar. Write down tasks, prioritize them, and stick to your schedule.
5. Minimize Distractions: Turn off phones and computers, avoid time-stealers like social media, and focus on your task.
6. Change Your Thinking: Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Believe in your ability to complete tasks.
Procrastination affects over 25% of adults and 50% of college students, but itβs not laziness. It's often driven by stress and negative beliefs. To reduce procrastination, recognize the problem, commit to starting, break tasks into chunks, stay organized, minimize distractions, and change your thinking.
